Customized Facials. Thoughtful Skincare.
You don't have to figure out what your skin needs before you book. Every facial at Back Bar is customized around how your skin looks, feels, and responds that day. Simply choose your facial length, and I will take care of the rest.
What ingredients might you choose for acne-prone skin?
-
Enzymes
These may help loosen surface buildup without relying on rough scrubbing. They may also help prepare areas of congestion for careful extractions.
-
Salicylic acid
This may be considered when oily buildup and clogged pores are a primary concern. It may not be the right choice when your skin is already very dry, peeling, or irritated.
-
Niacinamide and lightweight hydrators
Acne-prone skin still needs hydration. These types of ingredients may be chosen when the skin needs support without a heavy or greasy finish.
-
Clay or clarifying ingredients
These may be used in targeted areas when the skin feels oily or congested rather than automatically applying a drying mask to the entire face.
Acne-Prone Skin Facials in Spokane
Acne-prone skin may feel oily, congested, inflamed, tender, or unpredictable. You may experience occasional breakouts, ongoing clogged pores, or a combination of active acne and lingering marks. At Back Bar, your facial is adjusted around what is happening with your skin that day rather than following one fixed acne treatment.
Clarify. Calm. Support.
Does this sound like your skin?
Acne-prone skin can show up in several different ways. Your skin may:
♥ Develop blackheads or small clogged bumps
♥ Break out repeatedly in the same areas
♥ Experience red, tender, or inflamed blemishes
♥ Feel oily in some areas and dry in others
♥ Become irritated from acne products
♥ Hold onto visible marks after breakouts heal
♥ Seem clear for a while and then suddenly flare again
Acne-prone skin does not always need stronger products or more exfoliation. Sometimes the skin is both congested and irritated, which means the treatment needs to address the buildup without creating more inflammation.
Why do breakouts sometimes feel worse?
-
Over-drying the skin
It can be tempting to use strong cleansers, scrubs, spot treatments, and drying products when you are breaking out. When too many of these products are used together, your skin may become tight, flaky, or irritated while the congestion remains.
-
Changing products too often
Trying a new acne product every few days makes it difficult to know what is helping. It may also leave your skin reacting to several ingredients at once. A consistent routine usually gives you more useful information than constantly starting over.
What will you look at during my facial?
I look beyond the individual blemishes and consider:
♥ Where the breakouts and clogged pores are appearing
♥ Whether the congestion is primarily blackheads, closed bumps, or inflamed blemishes
♥ Whether your skin also feels dry, sensitive, or irritated
♥ The cleansers, treatments, exfoliants, and moisturizers you use
♥ How frequently you introduce or change acne products
♥ Whether you pick, squeeze, or frequently touch the area
♥ Medications, hormonal changes, and recent treatments
♥ How your skin responds during the facial
This helps me decide how much cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, masking, and calming support makes sense for your skin that day.
What happens during a facial for acne-prone skin?
Your facial may include thorough but gentle cleansing, enzyme exfoliation, targeted extractions, a clarifying or calming mask, lightweight hydration, and products selected around both the congestion and the condition of your skin barrier.
The goal is not to scrub, squeeze, or dry out every breakout. The goal is to address what can be treated safely during the appointment while helping your skin feel calmer and less overwhelmed.
The products and techniques may change between visits as active breakouts settle, new congestion appears, or your home routine changes.
The strongest ingredient is not always the best ingredient. I choose products based on what your skin can comfortably tolerate that day.
More about your facial
What about extractions?
Extractions may be included when clogged pores are ready to be removed safely and comfortably. I do not believe in forcing every pore or continuing until the skin is swollen and irritated. Some congestion may need more than one appointment, consistent home care, or time to move closer to the surface. Deep, painful, or highly inflamed breakouts are not treated the same way as blackheads and surface congestion. Trying to force them can leave the skin more irritated.
What about enzyme exfoliation?
Enzymes may be used to loosen surface buildup and prepare the skin for the next steps of the facial. They can be a useful option when the skin needs exfoliation but does not need an aggressive scrub. The type and strength of exfoliation will depend on your sensitivity, current products, active breakouts, and how your skin responds. If your skin is already raw, peeling, or irritated from acne treatments, I may use less exfoliation or skip it completely.
How do you choose ingredients for acne-prone skin?
Ingredient choices depend on the type of congestion you have and whether your skin is also dry, irritated, or sensitive. The strongest ingredient is not always the best ingredient. I choose products based on what your skin can comfortably tolerate that day.
What about microneedling for acne scarring?
Microneedling is a separate advanced treatment for the appearance of acne scarring and uneven texture. It is not a treatment for active breakouts. I will not microneedle over skin with painful, deep, pus-filled, or actively inflamed acne. The active breakouts need to be under control before we begin working on the appearance of the scars they left behind. Once your skin is stable, we can discuss whether microneedling fits your type of scarring, current routine, medications, treatment history, and goals. A consultation and a series of treatments may be needed. Microneedling cannot completely erase every scar, and results vary depending on the type and depth of the scarring.
Which facial should I book?
Choose your facial based on how much time you would like for skin assessment, treatment, extractions, and relaxation. You do not need to select a separate acne facial.
Once I see your skin and we talk through your routine, I will customize the products, exfoliation, extractions, mask, hydration, and finishing steps for you.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Will one facial clear my acne?
One facial may help remove some surface buildup and ready congestion, but acne usually requires consistent care over time. Your home routine, hormonal patterns, medications, product use, and the type of acne you experience all affect how your skin responds. I will never promise that one appointment will permanently clear every breakout.
Will you extract every clogged pore?
Not necessarily. I extract what can be removed safely without excessive pressure or trauma. Some congestion is too deep, too inflamed, or not ready to be extracted during that appointment. Trying to remove everything at once may leave your skin swollen and irritated.
Can I come in while I am actively breaking out?
Yes. A customized facial can still be adjusted around active breakouts. However, deep, painful, cyst-like, widespread, or suddenly severe acne may need evaluation and treatment from a dermatologist. I can support the skin cosmetically, but I do not diagnose or prescribe treatment for acne.
Will my skin look red after extractions?
Some temporary pinkness may happen in areas where extractions are performed. I adjust the pressure, amount of extraction, and finishing products based on how your skin responds. Your skin should not be aggressively squeezed until it is significantly swollen or damaged.
How can I support acne-prone skin at home?
Acne-prone skin usually responds better to a consistent plan than an aggressive one. The goal is not to make your skin feel as dry as possible. The goal is to manage active breakouts while keeping the rest of your skin comfortable enough to stay consistent.
-
Cleanse on a schedule
Gently cleanse in the morning, at night, and after significant sweating. Washing repeatedly throughout the day or scrubbing with rough cloths, brushes, and cleansing tools can leave your skin more irritated without clearing the congestion.
-
Choose one treatment plan
Avoid starting several acne products at the same time or switching to something new every week. Use products according to their directions and give your routine enough time to show you how your skin is responding. More active ingredients do not automatically create faster results.
-
Do not pick or squeeze
Picking can push inflammation deeper, make a breakout last longer, and increase the chance of a lingering mark or scar. If an area is deep, painful, or not ready to release easily, leave it alone and let us decide whether professional or medical care is appropriate.
-
Moisturize acne-prone skin
Acne-prone skin still needs moisture, especially when you use ingredients that may cause dryness. Choose a moisturizer that feels comfortable and is labeled non-comedogenic or unlikely to clog pores. A balanced moisturizer can make it easier to stay consistent with the rest of your routine.
Ready to take a more thoughtful approach to breakouts?
You do not need to choose the perfect acne treatment or figure out every product before booking. Choose the facial length that feels right for you. We will look at your breakouts, congestion, sensitivity, and current routine, then customize your appointment from there.
