Pregnancy Facials in Spokane
Pregnancy can change how your skin looks, feels, and responds to products. You may notice new breakouts, increased pigmentation, dryness, sensitivity, or a routine that suddenly no longer feels right. At Back Bar, your facial is customized around what your skin needs that day, with thoughtful product choices and plenty of room for comfort and relaxation.
Gentle. Thoughtful. Restorative.
Has your skin changed during pregnancy?
Pregnancy affects everyone's skin differently. You may notice:
♥ Breakouts appearing in new areas
♥ More oiliness or congestion
♥ Dark patches or uneven pigmentation
♥ Increased sensitivity or redness
♥ Dryness, tightness, or flaking
♥ Products suddenly stinging or feeling uncomfortable
♥ Uncertainty about which ingredients to continue using
♥ A greater need for rest and relaxation
Your skin may become more breakout-prone while also feeling dry or sensitive. That is why I do not assume it simply needs stronger exfoliation or more drying products.
Why can skin change during pregnancy?
-
Hormonal changes and pigmentation
Hormonal shifts may affect oil production, breakouts, sensitivity, and how your skin responds to products. A routine that worked well before pregnancy may suddenly feel too strong, too heavy, or not supportive enough. Dark patches and uneven pigmentation may also become more noticeable, especially across the cheeks, forehead, nose, or upper lip.
-
Increased sensitivity
Skin may feel more reactive to heat, fragrance, exfoliation, or active ingredients during pregnancy. Even familiar products may begin to sting or cause discomfort, so your routine may need to be simplified or adjusted. Sun exposure can make pigmentation more visible, which makes daily protection an important part of your routine.
What will you look at during my facial?
I look beyond one breakout or dark spot and consider:
♥ Where breakouts, congestion, or oiliness are appearing
♥ Whether your skin also feels dry, sensitive, or irritated
♥ The location and appearance of pigmentation changes
♥ The products and prescriptions you currently use
♥ Ingredients you recently stopped or introduced
♥ Your sensitivity to fragrance, temperature, touch, and positioning
♥ How your skin responds throughout the facial
This helps me decide how much cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, massage, masking, and finishing support makes sense for your skin that day.
What happens during a pregnancy facial?
Your facial may include gentle cleansing, customized exfoliation, careful extractions, layered hydration, a calming or clarifying mask, facial massage, and finishing products selected around your current concerns.
If your skin is sensitive, peeling, or irritated, I may use less exfoliation and focus more on hydration and comfort.
If breakouts and congestion are the main concern, I may include targeted exfoliation and extractions without aggressively drying or squeezing the skin.
The table position, temperature, pressure, and pace can also be adjusted around your comfort.
More about your facial
How do you choose products during pregnancy?
There is no single ingredient list that works for every pregnant client. I look at the full formula, how the product is being used, your current routine, your skin's condition, and any guidance you have received from your prenatal provider or dermatologist. Retinoids, retinol, and hydroquinone are generally avoided during pregnancy. Other ingredients used for acne or pigmentation may depend on concentration, frequency, and provider guidance. Natural does not automatically mean appropriate for everyone, so essential oils, botanical extracts, and fragrance are still considered carefully.
What about hormonal breakouts?
Pregnancy-related breakouts may include clogged pores, oiliness, small bumps, or inflamed blemishes. Your facial may include gentle cleansing, customized exfoliation, careful extractions, targeted masking, and lightweight hydration. The goal is not to dry your skin out as much as possible. Overusing acne products, scrubs, masks, and spot treatments may leave your skin irritated while the hormonal pattern continues.
What about pregnancy-related pigmentation?
Pregnancy-related pigmentation may appear as patches or uneven areas of color. A facial may help your skin look brighter, smoother, and more refreshed, but it cannot guarantee that pigmentation will disappear. I may focus on gentle exfoliation, hydration, antioxidants, and protective finishing products rather than aggressive brightening treatments. Daily sun protection is especially important when pigmentation is a concern.
What about microneedling or nano infusion?
Microneedling and nano infusion are separate advanced services and are not automatically included in a pregnancy facial. Pregnancy is usually not the time to assume that the most intensive treatment is the best treatment. A customized facial can still address congestion, dullness, dryness, sensitivity, and relaxation without requiring an advanced service. Contact me before booking an advanced treatment during pregnancy so we can review your goals and any provider guidance.
Which facial should I book?
Choose your facial based on how much time you would like for treatment, massage, and relaxation. You do not need to select a separate pregnancy treatment.
Once I see your skin and we talk through your routine, pregnancy-related changes, and comfort, I will customize the products and treatment steps for you.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Are your pregnancy facials pregnancy safe?
I customize the facial with pregnancy in mind, but I avoid describing one treatment or ingredient list as universally safe for every pregnant person. Your health history, medications, allergies, stage of pregnancy, and provider recommendations all matter. Tell me that you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant and share any ingredient guidance you have received.
Can I get extractions while pregnant?
Careful extractions may be included when clogged pores are ready to be removed safely. I will not force deep, painful, or inflamed breakouts. Trying to extract areas that are not ready can leave the skin more irritated.
Will a facial clear hormonal acne?
One facial may help remove some ready congestion and make the skin feel calmer, but it cannot control every hormonal change causing the breakouts. Consistent home care and medical guidance may be needed when acne is painful, widespread, persistent, or leaving scars.
Can a facial remove melasma?
A facial may improve the appearance of dullness, dryness, or surface texture, but it cannot guarantee the removal of melasma or pregnancy-related pigmentation. Pigmentation usually requires consistent sun protection and a long-term approach.
How can I care for my skin during pregnancy?
Pregnancy is usually not the best time to begin an overly complicated routine. A thoughtful plan starts with understanding what you already use and making changes only when they have a clear purpose.
-
Review your current products
Check your routine for retinoids, retinol, hydroquinone, strong acne treatments, exfoliating acids, and prescription products. Bring questions about prescription or medically significant ingredients to your obstetrician, dermatologist, or prescribing provider.
-
Manage breakouts without attacking the skin
Avoid stacking several acne treatments, scrubs, drying masks, and spot products together. Hormonal breakouts do not always respond faster when the skin is made excessively dry or irritated.
-
Protect pigmentation daily
Use broad-spectrum sunscreen consistently and include the face, neck, and chest when exposed. Shade, hats, and other forms of sun protection can also help when pigmentation is a concern.
-
Introduce one change at a time
Changing several products together makes it difficult to know which one is helping or causing irritation. Introduce new products thoughtfully and pay attention to how your skin responds.
Ready for a facial that meets you where you are?
You do not need to choose the perfect treatment or understand every ingredient before booking. Choose the facial length that feels right for you. We will review your skin, products, pregnancy-related changes, and comfort, then customize the appointment from there.
