Facials for Sensitive Skin in Spokane
Sensitive skin may feel easily irritated, warm, tight, itchy, or uncomfortable. Products that work well for someone else may cause your skin to sting or react. At Back Bar, your facial is adjusted around how your skin looks, feels, and responds that day rather than following one fixed sensitive-skin treatment.
Calm. Strengthen. Support.
Does this sound like your skin?
Sensitive skin can react to products, weather, heat, exfoliation, or changes in your routine. Your skin may:
♥ Sting or burn when products are applied
♥ Become red or warm easily
♥ Feel tight or uncomfortable after cleansing
♥ React to exfoliants, fragrance, or active ingredients
♥ Become more sensitive during seasonal or hormonal changes
♥ Suddenly react to products you previously tolerated
♥ Feel unpredictable from one week to the next
Sensitive skin can also be dry, oily, congested, or acne-prone. Sensitivity does not describe only one skin type, which is why I look at your whole skin before deciding what to use.
Why does sensitive skin sometimes feel worse?
-
A disrupted skin barrier
Your skin barrier helps keep moisture in and outside irritants out. When it is not functioning comfortably, products may sting more easily and your skin may feel tight, dry, warm, or reactive. My goal is not to push your skin through an aggressive treatment. It is to support a calmer, more comfortable surface while avoiding unnecessary stimulation.
-
Too many active products
Using several acids, scrubs, retinoids, peels, or strong treatments at the same time can make it difficult to know what is helping and what is causing irritation. Even ingredients that are useful for some skin may be too much when your skin is already reactive.
What will you look at during my facial?
I look beyond visible redness and consider:
♥ Whether your skin feels dry, oily, congested, or dehydrated
♥ Where you experience stinging, warmth, itching, or discomfort
♥ Which products or treatments seem to trigger a reaction
♥ The cleanser, exfoliants, serums, and moisturizers you use
♥ Whether you recently added or stopped a product
♥ Medications, hormonal changes, and environmental factors
♥ How your skin responds during each step of the facial
This helps me decide how much cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, massage, masking, and finishing support makes sense for your skin that day.
What happens during a facial for sensitive skin?
Your facial may include gentle cleansing, little or no exfoliation, layered hydration, a comforting mask, barrier-supportive oils or moisturizers, and fewer stimulating products. I may also adjust the temperature of towels, limit steam, avoid aggressive extractions, and change the amount or pressure of massage. The goal is to help your skin feel calmer, softer, and more comfortable without overwhelming it.
Which facial should I book?
Choose your facial based on the amount of time and experience you want. You do not need to select a separate sensitive-skin treatment. Once I see your skin and we talk through your routine, I will customize the products, exfoliation, massage, mask, and finishing steps for you.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Will a facial make my sensitive skin red?
Some temporary pinkness may happen from cleansing, touch, massage, warmth, or increased circulation. Your facial should not be designed to leave your skin feeling burned, stripped, or intensely irritated. I watch how your skin responds during the appointment and adjust the treatment when needed.
Can sensitive skin still become oily or clogged?
Yes. Sensitive skin can also experience oiliness, clogged pores, or breakouts. I do not assume that every sensitive-skin client needs only rich or heavy products.
Should sensitive skin be exfoliated?
Sometimes, but not always. The amount and type of exfoliation should depend on how your skin feels that day, what you use at home, and whether your skin is already irritated. Little or no exfoliation may be the better choice during a reactive period.
What should I stop using before my facial?
Avoid strong scrubs, peels, retinoids, and intensive exfoliating products for several days before your appointment, especially if your skin already feels irritated. Do not introduce several new products immediately before your facial. Bring a list or photos of your current routine so we can review it together.
How can I support sensitive skin at home?
Sensitive skin often responds best to a routine that is gentle, consistent, and easy to understand. You may not need more products. You may need fewer products used more consistently.
-
Cleanse gently
Your cleanser should remove makeup, sunscreen, and the day without leaving your skin feeling tight, squeaky, hot, or uncomfortable. Use lukewarm water and avoid scrubbing the skin with rough cloths or cleansing tools.
-
Moisturize consistently
Apply moisturizer before your skin feels extremely dry or tight. A facial oil or balm may add comfort when needed, but it should support a balanced routine rather than make it unnecessarily complicated.
-
Exfoliate thoughtfully
More exfoliation is not always better. Strong acids, rough scrubs, frequent peels, and overlapping active ingredients can make sensitive or reactive skin feel worse. The right amount of exfoliation should leave your skin feeling smooth and comfortable, not tight or irritated.
-
Keep your routine understandable
A simple routine makes it easier to identify what is helping and what may be causing discomfort. Bring your products to your appointment if you would like help understanding how they work together.
